YAP November Newsletter 2018

Greetings Youth Artists and Parents/guardians

November is here and the fall weather is chilly. Halloween was a blast and now we are ready for the day of giving thanks. Happy gobble- gobble day! We have a full month in November. Please make note of the dates.

Sunday, November 4, 2018, 12 – 4 pm National Portfolio Day at the Convention Center

What should I bring to a National Portfolio Day?

A portfolio of visual artwork that includes your best and most recent work, but it can also include works in progress, sketchbooks, and tear sheets. Don’t hesitate to explain how you develop your ideas and where you want to go with them. Often, sharing the process of arriving at the completed work is as valuable as simply presenting finished products. You will hear many different opinions about your work that will be reflective of the admission requirements of each school. Therefore, we urge you to discuss your work with as many colleges/universities as possible and to bring no more than 15 works. Your portfolio can be presented as original work or on screen, but make note wifi may not be available at all locations. Students who are not prepared to show a portfolio may attend to gather information from college/university representatives.

Three Kings Day Print Project

We are working on screen printing again this year. The Three Kings is our theme as it is a celebration held at the Taller every year. We will have a poster contest and the winning image will be reproduced to represent the event and sold in the gift store. All design due November 9, 2018, and final prints are due November 21, 2018.

Kukuli Velarde Exhibition

Artist Kukuli Velarde is our next featured artist in the gallery. Her paintings and sculptures are inspired by Latin American Colonial art, MesoAmerican Art, and personal stories related to her life. Gallery walk-through November 16.

Motivos Magazine Day!

The Latino youth magazine Motivos is presenting their writers and content makers at the Taller. The stories they share are inspirational and motivational. The Magazine works to inspire young leaders to pursue life fulfilling careers and gives a voice to Spanish speaking youth in the US and Latin America. Presentation November 17, 2018, 3 pm.
