Greetings 

The Youth Artist Program is getting ready for its next school year and I am thrilled to begin another year of artmaking. (Note my level of excitement in the photo above).

The first day of YAP will be Monday, September 16, 2019

The Youth Artist program wants to congratulate Kevin Hernandez for winning this Year’s Carlos Pascual Award for Artistic Achievement. Kevin is planning on attending Eastern University this Fall. 

We also Want to Congratulate Diana Calcaño Mencía for getting into UArts and starting this Fall. The Youth Artist program wants to also congratulate Jean Ruíz and Armondo García on receiving honorable mentions for their portfolios. Jean will be attending Community College this Fall and Armondo is attending his Senior of High School at Mastbuam.

2019 – 20 Course offerings for YAP

Independent Projects Mondays & Tuesdays

Youth artists develop personalized projects based on their interest. The work is often aimed at being a piece that can highlight their skills and explore conceptual themes and visual narrative.

3D Printing

Every Thursday we have a focus of creating images using simple CAD software and making 3D printed models. 

Traditional Photography – Wednesdays

Photographer and Educator Tony Rocco continues his traditional photography program this semester through our collaboration with Photography Without Borders. Youth artists will meet every Wednesday to learn darkroom techniques of photography and also engage in other traditional methods of image capturing. 

Airbrush – Thursday

Artist Freddy Pratts will be showing airbrush techniques different paint mediums for multiple applications including canvas, T-shirts, and paper. 

Oil Painting – Fridays

Youth artists will be introduced to a variety of oil painting techniques. The program will focus on underpainting or underdrawing with glazes and alla prima. The paintings will focus on three major genres of painting; still life, landscape, and portraiture. 

Podcast YPC – Schedule TBA

Youth Pop Culture (YPC) will continue in a new format. The show will now be a series featuring Youth Artist Profiles and guest interviews.
