Greetings YAP Artists and Parents
The National Quarantine has many of us stuck at home, but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to work.
While at home, start developing work based on the following projects.
The Julia de Burgos Project
Julia de Burgos is a poet from Puerto Rico in the early part of the 20th century. Her poetry has been described as some of the most essential work defining the Puerto Rican and immigration experience in America. Using her poetry as inspiration, create images that help to illustrate her work. The poems are on our website www.yap.tallerpr.org. Pick one or two poems to illustrate. You will need to create a total of 6 – 8 images. The images will be turned into a book which will then be part of a small Anthology the Youth Artist Program is publishing and selling through our Gift Shop in-store and online.
PLAY Teen Zine
We are publishing our latest edition of PLAY Teen Zine 8th Edition. Our Annual Publication PLAY needs some more content. YAP Artists are invited to submit pieces from your sketchbooks for a section we are calling the “Sketch Corner.” Take pictures of your sketchbook drawings and send them to me so I can include them in the Sketch Corner pages.
Photography
Our Photography Group is looking for students to create instructional videos on how to take better photographs using equipment everyone has in their homes. We would then post these photos on our Facebook and Instagram pages where the photographers would get feedback on their photos from our students, staff, and community. Every week we would highlight the best images from each of our schools and even give out prizes.
Self Portrait Series
YAP is looking to include a self-portrait series in this year’s Teen Zine. Whether it be abstract, realistic, anime in style, we are interested in showing the visage of our YAP Artists. Any medium is permitted in this project, and mixing mediums are encouraged. This will be a newer feature for our Teen Zine.
All of this work is currently due by the end of April.
